2020 Community Needs Assessment

The City of Mt. Sterling and the Illinois Housing Development Authority conducted the survey in the Winter of 2019-2020. It measured 140 respondent opinions on various areas of community development to support future community revitalization efforts in Mt. Sterling, IL.

BC Surveys are a tool to help community stakeholders make informed decisions about future work. The information gathered includes demographic and other data to better understand what Brown County residents think about life, work, play, and progress in Brown County.

Survey Overview

What's next?

Since 2018, great things have happened in Brown County - the new Early Learning Center and a Mexican restaurant, uptown Mt. Sterling streetscape improvements, more shopping options, and a trails plan to name a few. The 2022 results will also lead to action and change. The purpose of the Brown County Community Surveys is to:

  1. Understand what Brown County residents think about life, work, and play in Brown County,
  2. Gather data showing residents' perception of progress made over the past decade, and
  3. Equip community stakeholders with current demographic data to assist them in making informed decisions about future work.

Survey Partners

The Brown County Survey is presented through partnerships among  Action Brown County, the Brown County Public Library, the Tracy Family Foundation, the City of Mt. Sterling, the Mt. Sterling Community Center YMCA, and community volunteers.
